WARRINGTON Wolves boosted their hopes of a top two finish in Super League with a 34-28 win over champions Hull KR.
In a game delayed by the Robins’ early season appearance in the World Club Challenge, the Wolves came away with a victory that gives them a four point cushion on their opponents with four rounds to play. A top four finish guarantees a home play-off game.
George Williams scored his first try since his return from neck surgery to get one over England rival Mikey Lewis, who was sinbinned for dangerous play on his return from a four-game ban.
Hull KR led 14-10 at half-time after the two sides had traded tries in the first half, Warrington leading through Albert Hopoate and James Bentley, before Mikey Lewis and Karl Lawton turned things around.
But after Toff Sipley had edged the Wolves in front, and Arthur Mourgue levelled with a penalty goal, Warrington cut free and got too much on the board for Rovers to come back from.
A Ewan Irwin kick, Liam Byrne’s try plus Williams and a second score for Hopoate put them well clear.
Dean Hadley and Tevita Pangai, who had been due to join Warrington before this season, scored late consolations for Hull KR to add respectability to the scoreline.
