MP ‘pleased’ Peel Ports has launched investigation into Warburton Toll Bridge

WARRINGTON North MP Charlotte Nichols recently met with Peel Ports, who operate the Warburton Toll Bridge, to raise the concerns of motorists who have been fined for crossing it.

In the meeting, Ms.Nichols told Peel that many motorists are having issues crossing the bridge. Some are reporting receiving fines months after crossing, whilst others are seeing that their accounts are not being charged properly.
Peel disclosed that 138,000 non-compliant crossings have been made in total, accounting for 10% of crossings. Peel has reported that a significant number of fines have since been written off.
Following this meeting with Charlotte and other meetings with MPs in the local area, Peel has announced that they will be investigating the system, which is operated by Excel Parking.

Ms. Nichols MP says: “Following a meeting with Peel Ports earlier this month, I am pleased they have taken some of the concerns I raised with them on board. They have now launched an investigation and agreed to look into cases which I raise with them.
“More work needs to be done as motorists continue to contact me. Those who have reported issues to me will have their cases raised with Peel.
“I can assure you I will continue to hold Peel to account on this issue.”
Peel Ports has also agreed to provide Charlotte’s office with an escalation contact for motorists who believe they have received a fine unfairly. Those who have already written to Charlotte will be contacted in due course.
