PLANS for an indoor padel tennis centre using a former warehouse at Stretton have been submitted to Warrington planning chiefs.
The scheme involves a warehouse building at Stretton Green, on the Stretton Distribution Centre.
Applicants Linkup Padel say the scheme would deliver a high quality padel centre in an area where there is limited existing provision.
It would provide four double courts, a competition court and two single courts, with a feature entrance and a defined arrival space establishing a clear identity and sense of place.
Internally, the use of existing openings to form a feature entrance would improve visibility and presence, leading into a clearly defined social space centred around a circular bar and seating area.
Padel tennis is a fast-growing racquet sport that has established strong popularity in the UK due to its accessibility, social format and ease of participation. Played in pairs on an enclosed court approximately a third of the size of a tennis court, it uses underarm serves, wall rebounds and lightweight rackets, making it suitable for a wide range of ages and abilities.
Provision of padel facilities within the immediate Warrington area is relatively limited, with the nearest facility, provide ng only two outdoor courts about three miles away.
The nearest indoor courts in Warrington are about seven miles away.
The proposals are currently being considered by Warrington planning officers.
