Council slammed over broken lift at community hub

WARRINGTON Borough Council has been slammed over a broken lift at the Bewsey & Dallam Community hub, which has been out of action since January.

As a result, members who have mobility issues have been unable to attend exercise classes.
Local Cllr John Roddy said: “This is another example of public facilities being run into the ground under this Labour administration.
“The lift at the Bewsey & Dallam Hub on Longshaw Street has been out of order since January, leaving elderly and disabled residents unable to access first-floor facilities for months.
“I am advised that this is down to contractual disputes between suppliers and contractors. That is simply not good enough.
“Local people should not be punished because of incompetence, delays or failures behind the scenes.
“Across the borough, community centres and public facilities are deteriorating, repairs are delayed, and standards are falling — yet Warrington Borough Council’s Labour administration and the local Labour MP just seem to expect residents to suck it up and accept less,” added Cllr Roddy.
“Residents pay enough in council tax. They deserve properly maintained, fully accessible public facilities — not excuses and endless delays.”
A Warrington Borough Council spokesperson apologised for the ongoing issue, saying: “Engineers have attended the site and carried out initial repairs, but unfortunately, these did not completely fix the issue. Further checks have since identified an additional fault and the appropriate repair has been instructed.”
