Effect on Drive Quality due to Tyres

0

Did you know that your tyres can affect the comfort of your car? While a soft cushion or renewed upholstery can make your bottom a little happier, much of the smoothness of your ride will depend on your tyres, and their quality. Let us take a more in-depth look.

When It’s Not the Tyres

Do be wary of just assuming that an uncomfortable ride is due to the lower quality tyres you invested in. An obvious decline in ride quality that does not align with a change of tyres can mean that your suspension is beginning to, indicate a fault in the setting of your brake pads, and even indicate that something quite major is beginning to break under your vehicle: the axle, wheels, springs and more, can all present as an uncomfortable ride at first, before dramatically revealing their true state. If in any doubt, check with your mechanic.

When It’s Their Age

Even the best kept tyres begin to deteriorate the moment you fit them, and by the time they are five or six years old, most tyres are in need of changing. They will lose tread depth, begin to crack and dry out, and can even start losing their integrity, shedding chunks of rubber wherever you go. And all of these affect the vibrations that rise through the tyres to impact on the state of your ride. Tyres that are kept in absolutely optimum condition can last up to ten years, but this is extremely rare and the absolute outlier of tyre condition – by the time they are this age, the rubber will have dried out and changed chemically to the point that they will not pass muster for very long at all.

When It’s Their Quality

While price is not always an indication of quality – many consumable items that cost more do so because they are in fancier packaging which costs more than the blander wrappings of cheaper, but identical, products! – when it comes to your tyres, it usually is. Budget tyres are made from slightly inferior rubber, have more bulking agents added, and do not use the latest advances in tyre technology. Premium tyres, on the other hand, are the opposite: the rubber is crafted with your ride in mind, not the bottom line, and the latest advances in rubber manufacturer, tyre engineering and design are incorporated to give you a superb ride – and tyres that will stand the test of time, making them a surprising economical choice in the long run!

But cheap does not mean bad, by any means, and there are excellent quality tyres for reasonable prices out there, if you know where to look. Get your hands on good quality cheap tyres in Basingstoke at Headley Tyres.
