The Willows Veterinary Group – with practices in Warrington, Latchford, Lymm and across the North West – is looking for the oldest pet in Cheshire as part of its campaign to highlight the health issues of “senior” pets.
Cats and dogs are considered “senior” when they reach 10 years old and, while many go on to live a lot longer, often diseases like arthritis, diabetes, kidney and liver damage and heart conditions begin to take their toll.
Often these problems may not be obvious to owners but early detection by a trained vet means they can be treated more successfully. Advances in veterinary medicines and diet means that older pets need not suffer with the onset of old age.
The group is offering anyone worried or seeking reassurance about the health of an older pet free health checks on a limited first come, first served basis throughout November.
At the same time they are celebrating the many wonderful “elderly” pets.
The group is asking pet-owners to send in a photo of a beloved old dog, cat, budgie, hamster or whatever to competitions@willowsvetgroup.co.uk – with its name, age, etc. The best pictures will be featured on the Willows Veterinary Group’s website. And there will be a prize for the best photograph.
Geraldine Daniels, practice manager at the Lymm Surgery, said: “We hope people will have fun taking photographs of their pets, but also that the serious message gets through about keeping your animals healthy.”
