IMPACT – Warrington’s youth council – has unveiled its manifesto for the next two years.
It includes making public transport accessible and affordable for young people, making teenagers aware of the provisions available to them and developing relationships with Warrington’s twin towns.
The group also raised issues about the relationship young people have with the police and how working more closely with them could help.
IMPACT was formed in 2006 and has since become involved in democratic decision making both locally and nationally.
Kath O’Dwyer, Warrington Borough Council’s executive director for children and young people’s services, said: “IMPACT are not only the voice of young people in the borough, they are the voice of the future. They meet regularly with senior directors and Coun Sheila Woodyatt (the council’s executive member for children’s services) to let us know what is important to them, and put us through our paces!
“Since the last manifesto in 2008 IMPACT has achieved some fantastic things and I have no doubt the next two years will be equally successful.”
IMPACT’s recent achievements include successfully challenging a decision about student transport subsidy, getting involved in the recruitment of children and young people’s services officers and organising local and regional events.
