New entrance gate proposed for historic Lymm farmhouse

PLANS have been submitted to Warrington Borough Council for a new – and additional – entrance gate to a historic farmhouse at Lymm.

Grade 2 Listed Burford Lane Farm, in Burford Lane, was built in 1866 for local landowner Rowland Egerton-Warburton by renowned Cheshire architecture John Douglas – who also designed the famous Eastgate Clock on the Eastgate Arch in Chester City Centre.

In addition to the farmhouse there are also Grade 2 Listed stables, cartshed and barn – also attributed to John Douglas. The buildings have been converted for residential use in the past.

A report to be studied by planning officers states that the proposed new access will be alongside the existing access and will be of matching design.
The purpose is to provide access to a garage at the rear of the site.

Burford Lane is a single carriageway country lane and the proposals will result in extra width at this particular point which will enable pedestrian more room to pass each other and smaller delivery vehicles to pull off the road.

The new access will be of a higher design standard than most others in Burford Lane, including the recently approved access fo the former Willowpool Nursery site, now a park home development, the report adds.
