FLOOD warnings are in place across Warrington as snowfall added to existing flooding problems across the town, with homes under threat of evacuation and warnings upgraded to severe at Lymm with “threat to life”.
At 5.30am this morning The Environment Agency issued a severe flood warning for Heatley in Lymm and Little Bollington which means a “threat to life” and significant disruption, while more than 80 people have been evacuated from properties across Warrington.
Reddish Lane remains blocked and Birch Brook Road is flooded at the junction with Rushes Meadow close to the Heatley Roundabout, passable but with care.
Further down the course of the River Bollin the A56 is blocked at Little Bollington.
Local MP Andy Carter warned:” If you are asked to leave your home and need to stay with family or friends due to flooding, you will not be in breach of coronavirus laws and no legal action will be taken.
“If you or a family member have been asked to self-isolate due to Covid-19 Government guidance or if you are clinically extremely vulnerable, you will be contacted directly and Covid-secure accommodation will be provided.
“I am liaising with the emergency services to keep everyone safe. Call 999 if you are in immediate danger.”
Last night Lymm Parish council set up the village hall on Pepper Street ready to act as a shelter point, and if needed the council will open with seating and a hot drink.
Local Cllr Graham Gowland said: “It’s not open yet, but it can be activated either by the Borough Council officer, or call 01925 751599 at any time and it can be opened up quickly.
“Please make sure you have fully charged your mobile phones and keep a torch to hand if you may be affected.”
Meanwhile, an estimated 6000 sandbags have been distributed to addresses at areas of concern across Warrington, as well as other preventative works, such as pumps, at some locations.
The council’s highways team has been out visiting flooding hotspots and providing advice in a COVID-secure way, including making door-to-door visits where appropriate.
Flood warnings are in place at Reddish Lane, Heatley (Lymm) – with projected water levels at Bollington (Heatley) set to be significantly higher than previously experienced.
Officers have door-knocked at all properties that could be affected and provided advice and guidance in a COVID secure way.
Warrington Lane, Lymm, remains closed due to flooding on the carriageway, due to water from surrounding fields.
Across Warrington more than 80 people have been evacuated from their homes.
Liverpool Road, Warrington – 1 person evacuated, Longshaw Street, Warrington and surrounding areas – 80 people evacuated, Rhostherne Close, Great Sankey – 3 people evacuated and Densham Avenue – Orford – 4 people evacuated.
Local Cllr Amanda King was assisting residents of Huntley street, which is totally flooded with electricity cut off, with Hood Lane Community Centre on Crosfields opened through the night for people have needed to get warm and recharge their phones.
