Residents are being invited to take part in ‘Walking Day Reborn – Standing Together in Faith’ this Saturday as the Warrington tradition begins a new chapter.

Led by the communities, churches and organisations that have supported it for generations, the event represents a fresh approach to Walking Day.
It aims to bring all Warrington’s communities together to celebrate the town’s heritage while helping create a sustainable future for the long-standing tradition. Organisers hope the new format will breathe new life into the celebration by making it more inclusive, sustainable and community-focused.
Walking Day Reborn aims to bridge the gap between past and future, re-engaging those who have marched in years gone by while also welcoming newer residents.

What’s happening?

The event begins at 10am with prayers led by Rev Anne Dowdeswell of St Elphin’s Parish Church. The Parade of Banners, accompanied by Warrington Brass Band, will take place immediately afterwards and will be watched by the Mayor of Warrington, Cllr Sagheer Zaman, Anyone wishing to see the banner parade is encouraged to arrive by 10am.

The programme will then continue with performances from:

  • Rhythm of Warrington Drummers
  • The House of Living Bread Choir
  • The Day of Renewal Fellowship Choir
  • One Voice, Many Tongues Choir (St James)
  • Salvation Army Choir and Brass Band

The day will conclude with a community sing-along of popular hymns led by the Salvation Army Choir.
A funfair will run throughout the day, alongside Warrington Museum’s Historic Memories Desk, where visitors can share and revisit their favourite Walking Day memories. The Town Hall Tea Room will also be open throughout the event, serving homemade cakes, sandwiches and savouries.

Walking Day Reborn – Standing Together in Faith takes place on Saturday, 4 July, 10am-4pm at Warrington Town Hall and Bank Park. Everyone is welcome.
