REPRESENTING Great Britain for the first time, Warrington weightlifter Josh Summersgill came a creditable sixth in the 2026 European Masters Weightlifting Championships in Belgium, earlier today, Friday.
Josh from Westbrook, Warrington, who was being cheered on by family and friends via a live online stream, said: “First time representing Great Britain and I couldn’t be prouder of the result. The gods tried absolutely everything to get in the way of me even making it, so to even make it to the platform was incredible.
“I managed to go 3 for 3 in the Snatch (105, 110 & 115), and went 2 for 3 on the Clean & Jerk (136, 141, 145), narrowly missing the Jerk on my last lift that would have broken my own British record!
“I can’t thank everyone enough for their support and messages that made today what it was, I’m forever grateful!”
“Next stop, Athens for the Worlds!
