THE Save Woolston Hub Committee has welcomed a more constructive and open tone from Warrington Borough Council following recent discussions regarding the future of Woolston Neighbourhood Hub.
Following a productive dialogue with senior councillors, including Cllr. Jean Flaherty, the Committee noted a shift in language and approach at the Full Council Meeting on Monday evening. References to the Hub as a “temporary closure”, alongside a stated willingness to work collaboratively with the community, are seen as positive steps forward.
The Council also indicated it is seeking external advice in relation to the consultation process, which the Committee believes is an important opportunity to strengthen transparency and rebuild trust.
A spokesperson for Save Woolston Hub said: “We welcome the more constructive tone and the recognition that working with the community is essential. This is a positive step, and we are ready to engage in a practical and solutions-focused way to help secure the future of Woolston Hub.”
However, the Committee emphasised that clear actions must now follow these commitments. Key areas requiring progress include:
A full and transparent technical assessment of the building
Proper evaluation of all funding options, including existing Section 106 infrastructure funds and private capital investment.
Partial reopening options to restore community use
Clarity on the timeline and decision-making process
The spokesperson added: “The community has consistently shown its commitment to this facility. We now need to see the same level of commitment reflected in clear next steps and tangible progress.
“The Committee remains committed to working constructively with the Council to find a viable, evidence-based solution that protects this vital community asset.”
