As winter weather sets in, Warrington Borough Council is urging eligible people to take up the flu and COVID-19 vaccine.
Getting vaccinated every year will top up your protection and reduce your risk of getting severe symptoms.
Flu vaccines are available for everyone aged 65 and over, under 65s in clinical risk groups, care home residents and carers, children, pregnant women, close contacts of those who are immunosuppressed and frontline health and social care workers.
You can book a flu vaccination online, via the NHS App, by calling 119 or find a pharmacy offering a walk-in service.
The NHS also recommends the RSV vaccine to pregnant women and older adults aged 75 to 79, as well as the pneumococcal vaccine to over 65s, to help protect against serious illnesses that are more common in the winter, like pneumonia.
You can get the winter COVID-19 vaccine if you are aged 75 or over (including those who will be 75 by 31 January 2026), are aged 6 months to 74 years and have a weakened immune system because of a health condition or treatment or live in a care home for older adults.
Some people may be able to get vaccinated at a local service, such as a community pharmacy, on the living well bus, a GP surgery, or at a care home if they live in a care home.
You do not need to wait for an invitation before booking an appointment.
Cllr Maureen McLaughlin, cabinet member for health, wellbeing and social care, said: “Getting your winter vaccines helps protect you and those around you from serious illnesses that are more common in the winter.
“Viruses change from year to year so it’s vital people get the vaccine every year to ensure they are protected against different strains. Stay strong, get vaccinated.”
