THERE were long delays on the M6 Thelwall Viaduct at Warrington today (Tuesday) due to a complex recovery operation following a lorry fire.
Two lanes (of 4) were closed on the M6 northbound Thelwall Viaduct between J20 (Lymm)and J21 (Warrington) due to the earlier lorry fire.
A complex recovery operation took place but all lanes are now clear.
At 05:09, two fire engines from Lymm and Birchwood, and one fire engine from Greater Manchester Fire and Rescue Service attended reports of a lorry fire.
Firefighters made good progress to get the fire under control.
There were no reports of any injuries.
Firefighters wearing breathing apparatus used a hose reel jet to tackle the fire on the trailer, which was transporting grain. A three-lane road closure was put in place while the incident was dealt with.
Specialist mats were used to prevent any spillage from the trailer entering nearby drains, and a dam was put in place on the trailer to prevent any further product from being spilled.
Firefighters cut away parts of the trailer to check for any signs of smoke, and a thermal imaging camera was used to monitor the temperature of the trailer and the surrounding area.
The product was removed from the trailer, and the incident was handed over to National Highways.
This incident is now clear, and all lanes have re-opened on the #M6 northbound #ThelwallViaduct between J20 (#Lymm)and J21 (#Warrington).
A 90 minute delay remains on approach to the area with 12 mile sof congestion, so please continue to allow extra journey time. pic.twitter.com/uDQns0C0GH
