WARRINGTON South MP Sarah Hall has welcomed a record £1.6 billion Government investment to fix potholes.

The Government has confirmed the major investment will be allocated to councils across England to tackle the growing backlog in road maintenance and address the surge in pothole-related damage.

This includes an additional investment of £500 million intended to fund the repair of up to seven million potholes this year, an intervention which the Member of Parliament for Warrington South says is essential to restore aging infrastructure.
From mid-April, Warrington Borough Council will begin to receive around £7.2 million in funding. The council will publish regular updates on its website, setting out how the money is spent, the number of potholes repaired, the condition of local roads, and the steps being taken to reduce disruption for local residents.
According to data from Warrington Borough Council it repaired 3,475 potholes in 2024.
In a further announcement, the Transport Secretary outlined a £4.8 billion investment for National Highways for 2025 to 2026. This funding is expected to underpin key infrastructure projects and support the upkeep of motorways and major A-roads.

Commenting on the investment Ms Hall said: “For too long, broken roads have been a daily frustration for drivers across Warrington South, damaging vehicles, disrupting lives, and costing hard-working families money they can’t afford to lose.
“This new £7.2 million investment in our local roads is a clear signal that this Government is serious about getting the basics right and putting an end to the pothole plague once and for all.
“Fixing the roads isn’t just about smoother journeys, it’s about safer streets, stronger local economies, and restoring a sense of pride in our communities.
“Constituents deserve to see real, visible results. With this new funding comes new accountability, and I’ll be keeping a close eye to make sure every pound is spent making a difference where it matters most.
Warrington South deserves roads that are fit for the future. Whether you’re going to work, taking the kids to school, or simply heading to the shops.
“Better infrastructure means a better quality of life. This is how we rebuild trust, deliver our Plan for Change, and restore the public services constituents rightly expect.
“If any constituent would like to get in touch to discuss or highlight road maintenance issues in their community they can get in touch with me on SarahHall.co.uk/Contact.”
