Local children design colourful Easter windows for Lymm businesses

Lymm’s feel-good gift shop, Fond, held an Easter colouring competition for local children, with the winning bunny ears design being painted on Fond’s large window front for passers by and shoppers to enjoy in April.

To take part in the competition, children had to unleash their creativity and colour in a bunny ear template. Along with the winning design being recreated in a huge size on the shop window, the child would also receive a Fond goodie bag and gift card.
11 year old Lani Graham won the top prize and her bold, joyful, spring design is now painted on Fond’s street-level window. There were a total of 94 entries from pre-school and primary age children across Lymm and due to the high number of amazing entries, Fond owner Laura Collier and her family chose ten other children, ranging in age from 4 – 11, to receive runner’s up prizes.
About winning the competition Lani says, “When Laura told me there were almost 100 entries I felt proud that mine had been picked. It’s really good that my design is on a window in the centre of the village because I know lots of people who walk past and see it every day, like my friends on their way to school, my auntie and my grandma.”

Along with Lani’s design, Laura has also painted three of the runner’s up’s designs on other windows on Bridgewater Street (where Fond is located). The other businesses showcasing the children’s colourful bunny ear designs include family-run coffee, juice and brunch spot Cuppello’s and unique craft studio and licensed bar Craft + Common.
Since opening in October 2024, Fond has engaged and delighted shoppers and passers by with their creative and joyful window displays. Owner Laura says, “My window displays are a way for me to extend Fond’s colourful and joyful interior onto the street and to further engage with the local community.”

Laura explains that she wanted to host the competition not only to inspire children to be creative, but also as a way to thank and involve people who use and support Fond and other local businesses. She says, “In small villages like Lymm we rely on regular custom so I want to show gratitude to those regulars by organising free, fun and creative activities for them.” Laura has also hosted Halloween and Easter hunts and will be providing a children’s art club during June’s Lymm Festival.
