Poor first half sees Wolves downed by Hull

WARRINGTON Wolves’ inconsistent start to the season continued with a 28-16 home defeat against Hull FC.

The Wolves were left shellshocked by a poor start that saw them trail 20-0, that made a second half fightback too big of a challenge.

After finishing second bottom last season, Hull are a much different proposition in 2025, led by former Wire half-back Richie Myler as chief executive.

Tom Briscoe walked in at the corner for the game’s opening try on 12 minutes, and within 10 minutes he’d added another, after Davy Litten’s touchdown to put them 14-0 in front.

Herman Ese’ese crossed on the half hour mark to leave the Halliwell Jones Stadium in silence, although George Williams dummied his way through five minutes before half time to give hope.

However, Litten grabbed his second try on the stroke of half time to make it 26-4.

Warrington’s chances were improved by a sinbin for Jack Ashworth early in the second half, and while Hull were down to 10, an overlap was created for Jake Thewlis to score.

But they had to wait until the hour mark for a further score, from Matty Ashton, to reduce arrears to 26-12.

Ashton’s second with 12 minutes to go brought Warrington back within 10, but that was as close as they would get, Will Pryce adding a late penalty to seal the Hull win.
