INDEPENDENT parish councillor Nigel Catlow has announced he is to stand for the vacant Borough seat in the ward of Great Sankey North and Whittle Hall taking place on Thursday, 1st May, 2025.
Commenting on his decision to stand as an independent at the borough election Cllr Catlow said:”As nominations have now closed, I am pleased to announce that I will be standing as an Independent Candidate in the GSN&WH ward, the seat vacated by Janet Henshaw.
“I was not expecting the vacancy to arise, so soon after the All Out elections in 2024, although I am prepared to commit to the fight.
“This election is extremely important for Warrington, as it gives the electorate in this ward the chance to judge a seasoned campaigner against the main national party machines. It also falls on the same day as many national elections for council seats, Mayoral elections and a local parliamentary seat.
“Electors here in Warrington can have their say on judging how the current Borough Council is performing in terms of services, budget control and the state of its finances. This election should be fought on local issues and the management of those but like all local elections, it will be marred by the state of the national picture. So local residents, if you feel disillusioned and want a change from the state of party politics, you really do have an alternative choice.
“If that’s the case, can you hand on heart, trust any of the national parties, as they all seem to promise loads but deliver very little.
“This election should be about the issues relevant to this area and how those decisions impact on the community, its taxpayers and Warrington as a whole, not about the party or staying with the way my family members voted.
“I will not be afraid to ask questions and drill into areas that seem to go unchecked. I have watched at first hand how the cabinet and full council operate, and if elected, will seek to test out the openness and transparency, that I believe is lacking.
“I am the candidate to fight the status quo, a candidate who is prepared to ask searching questions and work with fellow independent-minded councillors.
“I live in the ward (and have since 1998), I am a local Parish Councillor of four years standing. I married a local girl and have two boys educated in local schools and college, so my credentials as a solid member of the local community can’t be questioned.
“My mantra is ‘Vote for the PERSON not the PARTY.’
