Priestley College students in national radio discussion

FIVE students from Warrington’s Priestley College took part in a national radio discussion about the issues raised by hit Netflix documentary Adolescence.

Journalists contacted Priestley to invite them on air after being impressed by the calibre of students who took part in a BBC 5 Live debate with Nicky Campbell last year.
Bryn Williams, who is studying Politics, Maths, English and Film at Priestley, said it was important to take part.
“It’s a very relevant issue today, something that needs to be addressed by everyone in society, not just the government or parents,” said the former Lymm High pupil.
Adolescence has broken records in the UK becoming the first show from a streamer to top the ratings after drawing 6.45million viewers in its first week.
Netflix’s show has started a global conversation with its unflinching portrayal of a 13-year-old boy who is arrested on suspicion of murdering a schoolmate.

During their roundtable discussion with the BBC journalist the five students were asked whether the topics raised by the programme were accurate and what they felt were the issues facing young men today.
The other students who took part were Rowan Morley, Oliver Prescott, Joseph Roxby and Dan Walsh.
Mark Eccleston, assistant principal at Priestley, said the students had been a credit to the college and community on the national stage.
“It is important we take part in this kind of open discussion for the ongoing education, not just of our students, but of young people across the country,” he said.
