IT’S World Social Work Week and Warrington Borough Councill is celebrating the important role of those working in social work.

World Social Work Week is a global celebration of those who choose to pursue a career in social work and recognises the positive impact that social workers can have on individuals, families and communities.

The council has social work career opportunities across adults and children’s services, with routes into these careers including apprenticeships and training opportunities. They also offer senior roles for those looking to return to the sector or progress further in their social work career.
Cllr Jean Flaherty, cabinet member for children’s services (pictured mabove), said: “Choosing social work is a truly rewarding career path. While no two days are the same, the impact a person can have in supporting the wellbeing of adults, young people and their families is immeasurable.”
To help encourage others to pursue a career in social work, some of the council’s brilliant social workers have shared their thoughts on what a career in social work means to them:
“I work with children and families – every day is different, which means you can’t always stick to the plans that you had made the day before, but it is amazing to see what positive change you can bring to the children and families we support and to know that this work makes a real difference to people’s lives.”

Jay, apprentice social worker
“I love the challenge. I like it that no two cases are the same, there’s always something different. There’s always something different going on. We do achieve good outcomes with people, and it’s great to be part of a team making a difference.”
Sally Ann, apprentice social worker
“It is so rewarding when you can see a real, positive difference made to children and their families, due to providing invaluable support and intervention.”
Rachael, apprentice social worker
“It’s rewarding working with young adults and identifying their goals, rights and strengths.”
Jennie, newly qualified social worker
“I would encourage others to consider a career in social work because it is incredibly rewarding and impactful. While it can be challenging, the sense of fulfilment that comes from knowing you have made a difference is unparalleled. If you are passionate about helping others and want a career with purpose, social work is a path worth considering.”
Irene, social worker
