Warrington-based social care charity Making Space is celebrating national success after taking home two prestigious awards at the Great British Care Awards (GBCA) and Markel 3rd Sector Care Awards.

The national awards, both held in Birmingham on 14 March, celebrate excellence, innovation, and dedication in social care, recognising individuals and teams who go above and beyond to support communities with compassion and care.
Making Space was thrilled to see two of its dedicated colleagues win at the national level.
Daryhl Lewis from Runcorn was named Care Newcomer of the Year at the GBCA, recognised for her passion, knowledge, and lived experience in making a profound impact at the Cheshire East All Ages Carers Hub in Crewe.
Rosemary Stephen took home the Compassion Award at the Markel 3rd Sector Care Awards for her 30 years of dedication to supporting carers in Doncaster and Rotherham, empowering individuals from Bangladeshi and Pakistani communities through literacy, health, and wellbeing initiatives.
Alongside the two winners, Making Space was honoured to have several colleagues and teams recognised at both national awards.

The Connect Hub & Café Connect in Warrington was a finalist for the Community Engagement Award at the Markel Awards, highlighting its work in creating a safe, stigma-free space for mental health support in the local community.
At the GBCA Making Space also celebrated regional winners who progressed to the national finals. The Open Door Team in Stockport was a North West regional finalist for the Care Team of the Year Award, recognised for its dedication to mental health crisis support. Meanwhile, Young People’s Support Worker Tony Linney was a Yorkshire and Humber regional winner and national finalist for Home Care Worker of the Year. His commitment to advocacy and care for young adults earned him well-deserved recognition.
Making Space CEO Rachel Peacock praised the organisation’s achievements: “Our colleagues are at the heart of everything we do, and these awards are a testament to their dedication, compassion, and commitment to those they support.
“To see Daryhl and Rosemary fight off other inspiring finalists to win is an incredible honour and a reflection of the extraordinary talent within Making Space. Their passion for supporting carers, empowering communities, and making meaningful connections truly embodies the heart of our organisation.
“We are equally proud of all our finalists, including The Open Door Team, Tony Linney, and The Connect Hub & Café Connect. Their contributions continue to change lives every single day, and this recognition is a testament to the impact we have across Warrington and beyond.”

These awards mark a significant milestone in Making Space’s ongoing commitment to high-quality, person-centred care. The charity extends its heartfelt congratulations to all nominees, finalists, and winners. Find out more at makingspace.co.uk
