The facility was officailly opened by Mr Andy Moorcroft CEO (TCAT) and the school’s Senior Head Students, William Kenwright, Abiah Binoy and Haldron Tellis.

The Orangery will be a learning space and also where students will access food and refreshments at break and lunchtime. Therefore, taking the pressure off the main Canteen, so that the queues are smaller and the wait time shorter.

The new Orangery

The Orangery was designed in principle by Headteacher Mrs Scott-Herron who had the vision to blend the ‘new’ with the character of the 1940’s building, to create and industrial and ‘chic’ versatile space, full of light and climate controlled.
Mrs Scott-Herron said: “It is wonderful to have such a fantastic resource and to now see the young people have ownership over the space, as they really deserve somewhere special to both eat and study. The student feedback has been overwhelmingly positive, especially because it enables the students to get break and lunch refreshments efficiently and still have some social time or time to attend the Boteler Wider Curriculum offer.”

The Head Students gave a speech at the opening, commenting: “On behalf of the students at Boteler, we would like to say a special thank you for the support from TCAT, Mr Moorcroft, Mrs Scott-Herron and everyone who has been involved in this project. You have all worked so hard on this project and it has paid off, resulting in a space we are very fortunate to have access to. As Year 11 students ourselves, we feel as though this space will benefit the school in a positive way and we are grateful for the opportunity to have the chance to use it.”
