A dad-of-seven from Warrington attacked his partner in front of their children after a row about feeding their baby.
Christopher Turner, who had slept in a bedroom with the infant, went into his partner’s room, where she had spent the night with their two other children, at 8 am and demanded she feed the baby.
This upset her and she went into the kitchen and smashed a fruit bowl which angered him and he ran in and punched her in the face, Stuart Mills, prosecuting, told Liverpool Crown Court.
She was knocked backward and cowered away. Turner stood in some of the broken glass and he began screaming at her, “I’m going to kill you, you f….ing bitch.”
He went upstairs at the property in Houston Gardens, in Great Sankey and when she followed he said, “I f…..ing hate you, I just want you to die” and he punched her in the arm and head.
“This happened in front of the three children who were upstairs,” said Mr Mills.
When he later went to work, she went to stay with a relative.
Turner, aged 42, of Wareham Close, Woolston, Warrington, was arrested and when interviewed “he claimed she was the violent one”. Turner, who has eight previous convictions for 18 offences, pleaded guilty to assault causing actual bodily harm on June 1 last year.
Carmel Wilde, defending, said that the defendant, who appeared by video link from prison, wished to apologise and recognised it was “a problematic relationship.” He denied asking her to drop the charge.
She said he has suffered “a lot of unexplored trauma that requires therapy.
He has worked in house clearance and been offered ground work employment, said Miss Wilde.
Judge Gary Woodhall said that Turner had been threatening his partner when they were upstairs in front of their three children and she had been crying and telling him he was hurting her.
He said that she packed up and left as she no longer felt safe in her own home and had been struggling financially.
The judge pointed out that Turner, who has four other children from a previous relationship, had initially been on bail but was in custody as he breached the bail terms and had been contacting his victim telling her to drop the charge.
He sentenced him to 12 months imprisonment suspended for 18 months and ordered him to carry out 25 days rehabilitation activities. He also imposed a restraining order to keep away from his victim.
