MEMBERS of the leadership team at Ofgem – the Office of the Gas and Electricity Markets – visited the Trust Alliance Group (TAG) and Energy Ombudsman at their head office at Daresbury Park, Warrington.
Ofgem chief executive Jonathan Brearley and chairman Mark McAllister weer present, with other members of the senior leadership team.
They met with Simon Palmer, Group CEO of TAG, to discuss strategic priorities for the wider organisation.
Mr Palmer, said “We believe that driving better outcomes for all can only be achieved through collaboration with regulatory bodies, government, special interest groups, and suppliers. We were delighted to welcome Ofgem to talk about the work we are doing at TAG and specifically the Energy Ombudsman to deliver meaningful improvements that build trust and drive positive change.”
As the only alternative dispute resolution (ADR) scheme for the UK energy sector, Energy Ombudsman shared valuable insights with the Ofgem team and discussed key topics that are shaping the energy sector.
Ed Dodman, chief ombudsman at Energy Ombudsman, said: “Ofgem is central to ensuring the UK has a fair and balanced energy market that supports suppliers, brokers, and consumers alike. This visit was a valuable opportunity to discuss our shared priorities for enhancing consumer protections, improving supplier relationships, and leading sector-wide progress.”
Mr Brearley said: “Ofgem’s primary goal is to protect energy consumers, and this wouldn’t be possible without a strong, effective energy ombudsman playing its role.
“We recently announced plans to improve supplier standards across the board, and reform the system so customers receive a higher standard of support from their supplier when they are struggling. The ombudsman will be critical for these plans, and it’s been great to come and speak to the team about the issues they see regularly, and what Ofgem must do to continue improving the energy system for consumers.”
Mr McAllister said: “It’s critical that consumers have a regulator and an ombudsman working together to ensure the best possible standards from energy suppliers. Visiting the team here has given us a valuable insight into the hard work and dedication that goes into ensuring customers are treated fairly and disputes are resolved as swiftly as possible.”
Approved by Ofgem, Energy Ombudsman plays a crucial role in the sector by handle disputes impartially and independently between consumers, energy suppliers and third-party intermediaries.
