HOUSING developer David Wilson Homes has donated £500 towards the maintenance of the defibrillator unit at Appleton Thorn Village Hall.

The hall is run by a team dedicated to caring for the 140-dyear-old building and defibrillator unit is an external installation that is available for public use should anyone be in need.
It was installed in 2019 following donations from a number of benefactors, including David Wilson Homes, which then donated £1,000 to help with the initial purchase. All the donors have been commemorated on a plaque which is located beside the unit
Susan Plass, Trustee of the Appleton Thorn Village Hall Fund, said: “The donation will be allocated purely for the maintenance of the defibrillator, which is for the use by the whole village. Local charities like the village hall provide many services directly to the community.
“We are constantly looking for funding for projects to improve our facilities. Last year, we provided funds and grants of over £50,000 to update our ancient septic tank system linking the drainage to the main sewer and update our 40-year-old toilets. We are now looking at updating our kitchen, back doors and hall floor, though we are most fearful of the roof needing to be replaced as it is such an old building.
“We would like to thank David Wilson Homes for its donation and consistent support to our local community via the village hall.”

The village hall is the centre of Appleton Thorn and welcomes many groups and activities as a vital part of its income, including the CAMRA award-winning bar, Pre School and Nursery, Appleton Thorn School of Dance, a local yoga club, an orchestra, and Brownies and Rainbows.
The hall can also be hired for weddings, wakes, christenings and parties. It also has a large field which can be used for outdoor events, or more recreationally by locals and children playing football.
Claire Jarvis, managing director at David Wilson Homes North West, said: “Defibrillators are such important assets for local communities and we’re pleased to once again contribute to Appleton Thorn’s access to life-saving equipment.
“In crucial minutes during a cardiac arrest, it is vital that a defibrillator can be accessed quickly, and we are pleased that we could help with the maintenance for the unit at Appleton Village Hall.”
