WARRINGTON is finally set to thaw out after a week-long stretch of bitterly cold wintry weather with snow and ice affecting many areas.
Residents woke on Sunday, January 12 to temperatures which are above 0C for the first time in seven days.
And the great thaw will continue this week as any ice and snow is set to melt, with time running out for local photographers to capture wintery scene scenes.
The wintry weather this week has seen schools close and difficult driving conditions on untreated roads across Warrington.
Many pavements were also badly affected by snow and ice with residents warned to take care while walking outside.
Although it was a relatively cold start to Sunday, the Met Office said it is “feeling a bit milder” today. No weather warnings are in place,
It will be “often cloudy with sunny spells developing, feeling less cold”, forecasters said.
The maximum temperature will be 5C.
There’s a risk mist and fog patches will develop tonight, but the Met Office said it is likely to “lift into low cloud overnight as southerly winds strengthen.”
The minimum temperatures overnight will remain above 0C and will only fall to 2C.
The start of the working week sees a more unsettled period of weather. But maximum temperatures will be nearer the January average of 7C.
