WARRINGTON residents faced another morning of wintry weather-related misery as an ice warning is in force til lunchtime.
The Met Office issued a fresh yellow weather warning for ice covering the town. It is in force today, Wednesday January 8, until 12pm.
Lymm High School was forced to close its doors to students today due to the ice.
A message to parents read: “Unfortunately we are going to have to close school today.
“There is simply far too much thick ice, including a lot of black ice, all around the site.”
They are working hard to try and ensure the school can open on Thursday, it added.
The ongoing freeze follows New Year flooding which affected a number of areas followed by snow this week.
The forecast is for a cold and frosty start to the day with sunshine turning hazy through the afternoon. Some fog or freezing fog patches could linger through the day. Maximum temperatures are 3C.
The Met Office recommends leaving the house at least five minutes earlier than normal to reduce the risk of accidents, slips and falls by allowing for extra time.
If you do need to make a journey on foot, try to use pavements on main roads which are likely to be less slippery.
Cyclists are urged to use main roads which are more likely to have been treated.
Motorists are urged to take care while driving on icy roads which have not been treated and to stick to low speeds and low gears.
If their vehicles do skid, they’re advised to steer into the skid.
