WARRINGTON South MP Sarah Hall says she is “deeply concerned” as an emergency incident was declared over various flooding incidents across Warrington.
Throughout the day Warrington Worldwide has been reporting on various flooding incidents across the town with various roads closed and homes evacuated at Bewsey and the Bridgewater Canal bursting its banks near Lymm. Fire & Rescue services have been involved in numerous incidents rescuing people trapped in their cars.
At Lymm the Bridgewater Canal has burst its banks causing extensive flood waters in the area, with Mill Lane being closed this evening.
The Warrington South MP issued a statement saying: “I am deeply concerned about the flooding that has affected homes and communities across Warrington South. My thoughts are with everyone who has been impacted, and I want to assure you that I am doing everything in my power to support our communities during this difficult time.
“An emergency incident has been declared and a multi-agency response is underway. I am in close contact with the Council, Environment Agency and other partners to ensure a coordinated response.
I am grateful for the tireless work of our emergency services, volunteers, and neighbours who have stepped up to help those in need.
“If you are affected, please prioritise your safety and follow official advice.
“If you have been flooded, require assistance or believe your home is at risk you can contact Warrington Borough Council on their dedicated flood response line on 01925 44 33 22.
“I will be holding urgent virtual surgeries tomorrow 02/01/2025 to listen to concerns, provide updates and support for constituents.
“Additionally, I will be available throughout the day today around the constituency if anybody would like to get in touch or needs assistance.

At Lymm local Cllr Graham Gowland said: “We had over a months rainfall in 12 hours, and seen the usual flooding spots. The Bridgewater Canal has also collapsed at Dunham, and this appears to have created a surge that has flooded houses that never usually flood. The police, fire service and the council are continuing to monitor the situation. If people are affected, once safe they should speak to their insurers or landlord. We also need people to update the council with their experience of flooding by emailing [email protected]. I’ve spoke to numerous people who have been impacted, and all are safe, but facing significant cleanup operations.”
“Flood defences have generally worked locally – the canal flooding is exceptional, but we do need to do more work on some drainage ditches, that appear to have becomes blocked by debris.”
“Thankfully it looks like the rain is stopping, but the yellow ice warning may add issues.
Current situation: The Met Office forecasts continued adverse weather over the coming days.
Minimal further rainfall is forecast this evening. According to the Environment Agency water levels for our catchment area have begun to stabilise and are expected to begin receding later today.
There are still a number of alerts in place across Warrington South with a further ice warning for tonight, Tuesday and Wednesday. There are additional weather warnings of Snow on Saturday, Sunday and Monday.
Safety Measures:
Avoid Floodwaters: Do not walk or drive through flooded areas, as water may be deeper than it appears and contain hidden hazards.
Emergency Contacts: Keep a list of important numbers, including emergency services and utility providers. In case of immediate danger, call 999.
Stay Informed: Sign up for flood warnings and alerts through the Environment Agency’s Flood Information Service on www.gov.uk/sign-up-for-flood-warnings
Looking Ahead:
It’s crucial to remain vigilant and prepared. Ensure you have an emergency plan in place, keep essential items accessible, and stay connected with neighbours, Warrington Borough Council and Emergency Services.
Please continue to monitor official channels for updates, and do not hesitate to reach out to my office or local services if you require assistance.
