Council agree £792,000 contract for supported housing for young homeless people

CABINET members agreed a £792,000 contract to provide new supported accommodation for young people at risk of homelessness in Warrington.

New flats are being built in Bewsey providing a home for people aged 18 to 25 in 12 flats in two linked buildings a short distance apart with a communal area in Longshaw Street.
Funding for the support scheme was provided in 2022 from the former Conservative government and the Department of Levelling Up Housing and Communities under the Single Homeless Accommodation Programme.

Warrington was identified as lacking provision for young people at risk of homelessness aged 18 to 25.
Work is expected to be completed on the 12 flats in March 2025 with the contract for a three-year support service running to March 2028.
Councillors agreed the tender for the support service contract after 17 bids were received.
A needs gap was identified to help young people with more complex needs which may include previous or current offending, substance misuse, risk-taking or antisocial behaviour and access issues.
Those at risk of homelessness may also be care leavers.
The winning tender was discussed during part 2 of the meeting – when the press and public were excluded.

Cabinet chairman Cllr Hans Mundry said: “It shows Warrington is a town that is very caring and this is a high-quality tender for a town that cares for its people.”
The proposal was unanimously backed by the Warrington Borough Council Cabinet on Monday evening
