Affordable homes plan on green land rejected by planning chiefs

PROPOSALS to build four affordable homes on a piece of green land at Stockton Heath have been rejected by planning chiefs at Warrington.

The development, put forward by Warrington Housing Association, would have involved land off Ackers Road
Four three-bedroomed houses were proposed on privately owned land opposite Stockton Heath Fire Station.

Warrington Borough Council planners were told the there was no public access to the site other than an adjacent, existing public footpath.
There were objections from three nearby residents concerned about the loss of trees and amenity space, as well as traffic issues.
Rejecting the scheme, planning officers said it would result in a net loss of green infrastructure and wildlife habitats and would have an adverse impact on the residential amenity of existing property in Ackers Road and Montclare Crescent.
Concern was also expressed that the site might be required at some time in the future should there be a plan to build a new crossing of the Manchester Ship Canal adjacent to the existing Cantilever Bridge.
