RSPCA launch appeal after decomposing cat in carrier pulled from Sankey Canal

THE RSPCA is calling on the public to help them find out what happened after the decomposed body of a cat in a carrier was pulled from the Sankey Canal in Warrington.

A worker from a local wildlife charity found the cat in Sankey Valley Waterway, Warrington, on Sunday (30 March). They took the cat to a local vet, who contacted the RSPCA.

RSPCA Animal Rescue Officer Scarlet Sanderson, who is looking into the incident, said: “This is a concerning incident. The cat was in such an advanced state of decomposition that we can’t establish if they are a male or female, let alone if they were alive when thrown into the canal. They have clearly been in the water for a long time.

“We are urging anyone who has any information to get in touch with us so we can find out more about what happened to this poor cat.”
Anyone who has any information should contact the RSPCA’s appeals line on 0300 123 8018, quoting reference 1242948.
