Create an Eye-Catching Portfolio

The first step in launching your personal brand is to create a portfolio, especially if you’re seeking a job in a creative industry like technology, design, art, or marketing, among others. A well-thought portfolio is an excellent way to showcase your skills, experience, and let your personality shine.

Curating a portfolio might seem like a daunting task at first — there are so many different elements! —  but it doesn’t have to be. For starters, we recommend writing a strong CV (curriculum vitae), with a list of where you’ve worked and studied, which you can then base your portfolio on.

From there, gather a variety of work samples from previous jobs, internships, or volunteering positions (such as writing samples, graphic designs, coding projects, and so on). It’s also a great idea to list any awards and accomplishments, letters of recommendation, references from former colleagues, and any licences or certifications.

Once your basic portfolio is complete, it’s time to customise it. Career experts recommend tailoring your personal statement to each job that you apply for. Look at the job description and pay attention to what the employer is looking for, then weave those elements into your statement. Best of all, you don’t need to be a programmer or a web designer to make a beautiful website. There are plenty of blogging platforms like WordPress, Wix, or Blogger that have preset templates and tutorials that will have your site ready in no time.

Just like a physical portfolio, an online website should have three pages at minimum: an ‘About Me’ page, another with your contact info, and a page that showcases your portfolio/projects.

They are known for their innovative ideas, staying on top of trends, and bringing alternate views and insightful points to the table. Becoming a thought leader takes time and dedication, but that effort will definitely pay off once you’ve become an established name in your industry!

The easiest way to start is by creating a profile on LinkedIn, filling out your online resume, and publishing thoughtful articles on the platform. The more you write about your industry’s trends, developments, and latest news, the more followers and readers you’ll have.

In the meantime, be sure to maintain an active presence on social media platforms relevant to your industry (such as LinkedIn, X, or YouTube). Share your achievements, write out your thoughts, and network with others in your field. Having an active online presence helps you gain credibility and visibility in your industry.
