FOLLOWING yesterday’s shock announcement that the popular Rope and Anchor pub at Woolston is closing at the end of the month, brewery JW Lees has issued a statement saying it is hoped the premises will be back open before Christmas.

The announcement of the impending closure came yesterday, Monday, after the current tenant took to social media to advise patrons stating that the pub has been on the market for the past 3 months and there had been no successful takeover.

A spokesperson for the Brewery said: “We regret that our current tenant has decided to leave the Rope & Anchor and it’s last day of trading will be Tuesday 31st October.
“The pub will be closed on a temporary basis whilst we recruit a suitable new operator and our plan is to re-open the pub as soon as possible which we anticipate will be before Christmas.”

Yesterday the existing tenant posted on Facebook that the pub would be closing at the end of the month as it had been on the market for three months, with no successful takeover.

“Therefore the brewery decided to close its doors to the public on 31st of October.
“Last trading day will be the 31st of October until 11 pm.
“Brewery informed that it will re-open in future.”

“Me and the staff thank you for your custom throughout the years.”

It follows the brewery successfully seeking planning permisison to improve the premises.
The proposals at the premises on Manchester Road involved enhancing the existing pub without having any detrimental impact on nearby residents.

News of the impending closure was greeted with dismay on social media with many stating they were “gutted” to see the pub closing saying they felt sorry for the hard working staff approaching the busiest time of the year.
