THE true scale of disruption likely to be caused by the strike by refuse collection workers at Warrington emerged today.
Borough council chiefs admitted: “Unfortunately, due to the scale of disruption caused by industrial action, we do not expect to be able to empty bins until after the strike finishes on Monday October 16.
“We are very sorry about the inconvenience caused by the industrial action for our residents and businesses.”
Originally, the council said only a small level of disruption was anticipated as a result of the 14-day stoppage.
A council spokesperson said: We are willing to listen to the concerns of local UNITE members. However, we must acknowledge that the ongoing dispute with one of our recognised trade unions is related to negotiations which are held nationally and is not about local conditions in Warrington.
“We know you will have a number of questions and we will update again in the coming days on our plans for a catch-up on waste collection once the action has ended.”
Prior to the national strike action, the council had advised that disruption was likely to be minimal!
In the meantime residents are advised to:
• Flatten any household waste before putting it in the bin.
• Talk to neighbours about sharing bin space so all bins are filled
• If you have the space and your bin is full, keep your recycling waste indoors
• Take waste to a community recycling centre:
o Woolston and Gatewarth now open 8am-6pm, Monday to Sunday
o Sandy Lane now open 10am-4pm, Monday to Sunday

And what happens if the strike goes beyond 2 weeks WBC ?
Once again the plan and tactics weren’t thought through properly ! By a totally incompetent council
W.B.C. could have got AGENCY STAFF in but they have done NOTHING!
YOU SHOULD BE ASHAMED OF YOURSELVES!
I believe alot of the loaders are agency staff
I SAY **SACK** THE LOT OF THEM. WITH PLANNED NEW STRIKES IF MOSTLY AGENCY AND REPLACE THEM ASAP! **BREACH OF CONTRACT**
INSTANT DISMISSAL! GROSS MISCONDUCT
P45 AND GOODBYE!
Do you think we will get a refund on our shortened green bin collection. The price went up and yet it will be collected less.
