Road closures in place for funeral of murdered schoolgirl Brianna Ghey

WITH large crowds expected a number of road closures have been put in place for the funeral of murdered Birchwood schoolgirl Brianna Ghey on Wednesday.

The 16-year-old schoolgirl died from fatal stab wounds in Culcheth Linear Park on 11 February.

A boy from Leigh and a girl from Warrington, both aged 15, who cannot be identified due to their age, are awaiting trial charged with her murder with the case scheduled for July 10.

Meanwhile, large crowds are expected at Brianna’s pink-themed funeral at St Elphins Parish Church in Warrington at 2.45 pm.

Warrington Borough Council has given notice that on the occasion of the above event, no cart, carriage, motor car, lorry or other vehicle (excepting vehicles taking part in the event, Police, Ambulance and Fire Service vehicles and Mail Carts) and no horses or other animal be allowed to remain in or travel along or over any of the under mentioned streets between the hours of 1pm and 5pm on Wednesday 15th March 2023:
Church Street and Manchester Road to Farrell Street.
Bicycles and Tricycles are included in the term vehicle and must not be ridden through any part of the above-named streets during the hours specified. Any person wilfully acting in contravention of the above Order will be liable to a penalty not exceeding £400.
Pedestrian and Emergency routes will be maintained except for the section of Cairo Street as detailed above.
