A new permanent 16-bed ward has been completed at Warrington Hospital, providing additional clinical space for North Cheshire and Mersey NHS Foundation Trust while refurbishment works progress elsewhere on the site.
The 448m² facility is initially being used as a decant ward, helping the Trust to continue prioritising patient care while work takes place on an existing ward, without disrupting services.
The ward was built by modular construction specialist Premier Modular at its manufacturing site in East Yorkshire, before being transported to the hospital in 16 sections in just three days. The project was completed within 23 weeks of work starting on site.
The new building was constructed with just 250mm of clearance from the existing hospital and alongside a live ambulance route. Premier Modular conducted much of the construction off site to minimise disruption to patients, staff and emergency services.

As a flexible but permanent building, the ward will continue to support the hospital beyond the current works, giving the Trust greater scope to respond to future needs and providing space that can support the local community for years to come.
Richard Keeting, Project Manager, said: “We understand how crucial it is for Warrington Hospital and the wider healthcare sector to create extra space without taking services away from the people who rely on them. We’re proud to have delivered the project within such a short timeframe and with minimal disruption – supporting the Trust, its services and the people it serves across the local area.”
