YOU don’t need us to tell you how expensive it is at the moment, from fuel to food shopping and everything in between, and now with Christmas round the corner, it can be tricky to save!

We understand knowing how to save money and shop ‘savvy’ can really ease the pressure. Take a look at 5 of our top tips to save and cut back of spending:

Budget

Budgeting is the MOST important step if your saving for your first home! Without a budget it becomes over easy to get caught up with the Christmas magic and over spend, leaving little to no savings. Once you know budget for presents and general spending, you can look for presents that match your budget.
Top Tip – You can also agree spending limits that work within your budget with your family and friends!

 Secret Santa

Organising a Secret Santa is a great way to budget, everyone buys and receives one gift.

Just make sure you all agree a spending limit so it stays fair and fun for everyone! You can also suggest people make a list of gifts they might like within the budget this can help to make sure that any money spent on presents goes towards something they would really like or need rather than something they may not get use out of.

Sales

Sale shopping will be your new BFF over the Christmas period! By searching for the best bargains and sale hunting, not only will you get a great deal BUT save yourself some money too. Make sure you shop around and make sure you’re getting the best price. Whilst this can take time, it can be a good thing. The more you research, the more you will consider your purchase so it’s a great way to avoid impulse buying and grab a great bargain!!!

Avoid purchasing on your credit cards

TRUST US!! You’ll thank you for this tip.  When it comes to your mortgage application it’ll go in your favour to have a clear credit card balance.  We understand it can be tempting to pay for your shopping later but you could face hefty interest rates when paying it back. Any debt you can’t repay could also impact your credit score which makes it harder or more expensive to borrow money in the future.

 Vouchers, Codes and Reward Schemes

When you’re shopping online it’s always worth trying to track down a voucher code or look at see if the site has a reward programme if you sign up to their mailing list. The Daily Mail have a great website to look for codes and vouchers for all your favourite shops.
