STUDENTS and staff at Warrington & Vale Royal College are celebrating a fantastic set of vocational results, with 88% of final-year students studying a BTEC Level 3 achieving a Distinction*, Distinction or Merit grade.
Amongst the strong set of results were some particularly impressive achievements from George Byron and Timothy Lee who were both awarded D*D*D* in creative media and games design. George, a former pupil of St. Gregory’s Catholic High School, is progressing to study Television and Radio Production at the University of Salford. George said: “I would 100% recommend my course to others, especially anyone interested in TV and film. The tutors, new facilities and equipment are amazing and have helped me decide on my future career.”
Timothy, a former Sir Thomas Boteler CofE High School pupil, is progressing to Staffordshire University to study Computer Games Design. Upon collecting his results, Timothy commented: “I’ve really enjoyed my time at Warrington & Vale Royal College. I’ve made new friends and the tutors are so knowledgeable and supportive. They have definitely helped me in achieving my grades”.
A further group of students who were awarded a Distinction* grade or above included Eoin Mills, Mia Delaney, Harvey Talbot, Elisha Gilbert, Henry Tomlinson and Muhammad Zafar.
The college’s Art & Design department in particular, is celebrating outstanding results, with a 100% pass rate for all students. Art & Design student Bobbi Watkins, who achieved a Distinction grade, said: “I absolutely love my tutors, they have been incredible. I’ve felt at home studying here and don’t want to leave!” The former Birchwood Community High School pupil is progressing to Manchester Metropolitan University to study graphic design.
Reflecting on the department’s outstanding achievements, the college’s Curriculum Director for Art & Design, Ben Brady, commented: “We are incredibly proud of our students, all of whom passed, and would like to congratulate them on their success. These results, along with our brand new Advanced Creative & Digital Skills Centre, show that Warrington & Vale Royal College really is the place to study if you are serious about a career in the ever-growing creative industries.”
Principal Nichola Newton said: “We are incredibly proud of our students’ achievements this year, which is testimony to their hard work and dedication. These are our first ‘post-pandemic’ students to sit externally set assessments and we recognise how tough the last two years have been for them. We wish all our final-year students the very best for what we are sure will be bright and exciting futures.”
Warrington & Vale Royal College students will now be preparing for next steps, with many having secured places at notable universities including Manchester Metropolitan University, the University of Chester and Edge Hill University, to name but a few. Other students have secured employment within their chosen sectors, and many are progressing onto higher apprenticeships or higher education courses at Warrington & Vale Royal College.
