WARRINGTON Ethnic Communities Association’s “Mela” marked its 10th anniversary with a spectacular multi-cultural event in the town centre.
After missing the past two years due to the pandemic, the town centre was transformed with bright colours, music and much more as various nations joined together to celebrate the town’s diverse cultures and to enjoy other cultures.
Members of Warrington’s Asian community were joined by Polish Dancers, African drummers, Chinese Dragon Dancers and much more as a parade, led by Mayor Cllr Jean Flaherty, made its way from the town hall, through the town centre and finally Palmyra Square, where various activities took place.
One of the organisers Cllr Mo Hussain, General secretary of Warrington Ethnic Communities Association WECA said: “The aim is to bring all the community toegether and break down barriers.”
He said anyone attending this year’s event who felt their cultural wasn’t represented should get in touch to take part next year.
A gloriously sunny day for the Warrington Ethnic Communities Association (WECA) MELA, celebrating the people that make Warrington the town it is- whether they were born here or chose it as their home- to share in each others cultures, food and dancing! 🌞 pic.twitter.com/Mmqlu7NV4A

Had great fun at the amazing Warrington Mela, fantastically organised by Mo Hussain and fellow #WECA members.
The music and atmosphere was infectious, Grace and Ava, Gillian and I had a great time embracing the wonderful multiculturalism of our country. pic.twitter.com/UsjV9vTUNl

Absolutely brilliant day and great to see communities coming together. I hope politicians recognize the importance of respecting ethnic minorities and their contribution to our society, and we are not being used at election time only for votes. @warringtonworld @warringtonnews https://t.co/L9T9DgIjJB pic.twitter.com/Jm8W4nk0i4
