WARRINGTON Rylands travelled to a wet Alfreton Town on Saturday, looking to begin the Bank Holiday weekend with a brace of wins.
Alfreton, who sit one place above Rylands on goal difference, had yet to lose at the Solana Stadium this season.
It did not take long for Rylands to create their first chance. George Waring stretched to meet a Ben Hardcastle cross, but his effort struck the underside of the bar before being swiftly cleared from the goal area.
The Reds took the lead in the 23rd minute when Dylan Yuombi received the ball on the edge of the box and unleashed a shot through a crowded goalmouth into the bottom corner.
The home side looked certain to double their advantage when Jakub Kruszynski rounded Luke Pilling to face an open goal, but Dean Furman produced a remarkable goal-line clearance.
That moment could have proved pivotal. Towards the end of the first half, Rylands went close again when Harrison Wood went one-on-one with goalkeeper Alfie Roberts, whose outstretched arm deflected the shot.
The breakthrough came in the 68th minute when Roberts failed to clear a corner, allowing Wood to pounce on the loose ball and level the score.
The winner arrived ten minutes later. The rapid Jawad Jebrin crossed from the left; Waring came close to connecting, but the ball fell to Ben Hardcastle, who made no mistake.
Warrington Rylands return to Gorsey Lane on Bank Holiday Monday to face Bamber Bridge.
