Car park extension plan at historic church

0

PLANS have been submitted to extend and reorganise the existing car park serving historic St Wilfrid’s Church, Grappenhall and the parish hall.

The car park, which currently has 21 parking places, is at the rear of the parish hall and is heavily used by churchgoers, people attending events at the church hall and parents picking up or dropping off pupils at the 400-pupil St Wilfrid’s Primary School.

Re-organisation of the car park would improve safety on the car park – the existing parking places result in conflicting movements.

It would involve an extension into a wooded area, but only one holly tree of limited quality or amenity value would have to be removed.

Remedial planting would take place.

Six additional parking places would be created, including a tarmacked area which could be used as a kick-about area by children attending an after-school club.

The parish hall is a Grade 2 Listed building and the whole site is within the Grappenhall Village Conservation Area.

Replacement lighting and a security camera would enable staff at the after school club to monitor the outside area when children were playing.

Local consultation has shown that improved parking facilities would be appreciated by hundreds of people and it was expected the development would reduce the number of cars driving up and down Church Lane looking for parking spaces.

The car park is behind the parish hall and cannot be seen from the public highway – Church Lane.

Warrington Borough Council planners are considering the proposals
