School to get new gates to improve road safety

PLANS have been approved for new gates and changes to the car park at Latchford St James’ CE Primary School in Old Road, Warrington.

The changes will increase the number of parking spaces from 15 to 23 and improve road safety outside the school.
Lorries turning in front of the school gates, knocking over the school fence and gates has become a major health and safety issue, the borough council’s development management committee was told.

The school believes the changes will resolve the problems caused by comings and goings at nearby commercial premises.
Pedestrian access to the school will also be relocated.
The committee was told the only element of the proposals which required planning permission was the realignment of the existing fence and the introduction of a new sliding vehicle gate in place of the existing “swing gates.”
