Lymm still rocking with Lymm Rocks!

LYMM Rocks, the community group of like-minded individuals who enjoy painting, finding and hiding rocks is still rocking and very busy during the pandemic.

You may have come across a Lymm Rock on your walks. Lymm Rocks was set up in April 2018, and members paint and varnish rocks and then hide safely locally to make others smile when they find one.
There is a message on the back of the rock asking the finder to post their find on the Facebook group ‘Lymm Rocks’, thereby sharing smiles with the previous hider and artist.
The theme at the moment is ‘You are amazing’, suggesting rocks are painted with this message to gift to others or to hide for others to find. Rock themes are only there as suggestions, Lymm Rocks love all rocks.
This theme will be followed by a virtual superhero race, and following that, an Easter Monday virtual duck race and some fabulous easter holiday themes.
Over the lockdown months, Lymm Rocks have initiated many other projects to inspire creativity and to encourage people to still paint rocks, given some rockers were not comfortable hiding rocks at that time.
Recently the Lymm Rocks team asked for nominations of local Lymm business who have gone above and beyond for them over lockdown. A ‘thank you’ rock was painted and delivered to each nominated, approximately 170 business.
Just before Christmas, just over 200 Lymm Rock fairies arrived in a secret Lymm location. Clues were posted each day in December giving Lymm rockers an idea of where to find them. Finders were asked to consider only taking one fairy away per family home, to spend Christmas with the fairy, and then rehide in the new year to brighten January for others.
Last summer saw Lymm Rocks working together with the team at the Heritage Centre to create a Lymm Rocks display. These rocks were painted by members of Lymm Rocks over the Summer of 2020 to show their favourite scenes of Lymm village. This was added to in November with further rocks celebrating how Lymm came together in lockdown. These rocks are now permanently displayed outside the Heritage Centre.
In may of last year, the Lymm Rocks team between them painted and safely delivered around 250 rocks to those isolating alone. These rocks came with a message ‘well meet again’ to give comfort and hope during their time of shielding.
Events over the year have also included virtual online races. The latest virtual race is the Lymm Rocks duck race, to be held on on Easter Monday. To enter this race; entrants paint a duck on a rock and share a photo of the rock on the Lymm Rocks Facebook Group page. Last year the virtual duck race was a great success. Virtual races over the last year have included pets, fairy tale characters, superheros, school sports day egg and spoon race, Olympics and a lymm rocks Santa dash. There are no prizes, it’s all just for fun.
There are always new events and themes, which you can keep you onto date with by joining the lymm rocks Facebook group.
