Lymm Truckwash operators hit back following objections from residents

OPERATORS of Lymm Truckwash have hit back following protests from nearby residents over controversial proposals to expand its facility on the A50 near the Lymm motorway interchange.

Residents and local councillors say the existing truckwash causes noise and air pollution and serious traffic congestion on the A50 near their homes.
But the truckwash operators claim their proposals have been put forward to alleviate the very problems the objectors are complaining about.
They want to double the onsite HGV queuing capacity and to introduce a 24-hour HGV fuelling facility on the site.
Truckwash spokesman Matt Marsden said: “We have experienced occasional queuing on to the A50, which is why we are proposing to double the onsite queuing capacity.
“The plan is to use a small piece of redundant wasteland which we own at the rear of the site which means queuing lorries will actually be further away from the nearest homes than they are at present.
“This will help to ease congestion on the A50.
“The fuel facility will enable lorry drivers to wash and re-fuel in one go, reducing unnecessary road journeys. Only the fuel facility will be open 24 hours – there is no intention to extend the current operating hours of the truckwash.
“As part of the current planning application, we are proposing to build a 4m high acoustic barrier within our site between us and the nearest house. There will also be a further 4m high acoustic barrier next to the fuel facility. There will no additional fumes or light pollution and any additional noise will go unnoticed because of the constant background noise from the motorway.
“There are no major problems with the current truckwash. The business is performing well and taking on new staff. We would simply like to double the onsite queuing capacity to alleviate the occasional problems when we are excessively busy.
“Extending onsite queuing solves the problem – it doesn’t make it worse.”
Lymm Truckwash opened on its present site last year. Previously it operated for some 25 years within the Moto Lymm truckstop on the opposite side of the A50
Objections to the proposed expansion scheme have come from residents of Cherry Corner, backed by Lymm councillors Anna Fradgley and Tim Martland.
Below shows drone footage of the two pieces of land the operators want to use.
The piece at the back is for the HGV queuing, doubling the current capacity.
The piece at the front is for the HGV fuel bunker, enabling drivers to fuel up as they leave the wash.
The pumps will be high speed, 6 or 7 minutes to fill a wagon. There is nothing of this speed in the area.

Residents fear truckwash expansion onto green belt will cause even more traffic chaos”

  1. The area they want to use for more queuing is green belt that they have decimated and if when they asked for planning permission in the first place they had plenty of room to accommodate the business
