Grappers go down in close fought game

GRAPPENHALL went down by three wickets at Sale in the Vivio Cheshire County League – despite having the home side struggling at 63-5 at one stage.
Batting first, Grappers were bowled out for 143, despite sound knocks from their two former county players, Grant Hodnett, 31 and Richard Green, 36.
Sale were struggling after Sam Guest, 2-22, picked up early wickets but despite Adam Roylance taking 2-31, the home side’s later batsmen enabled them to take the honours with 144-7.
Grappenhall 2nd enjoyed a 77 run victory at Broad Lane, hitting 220-5 and then dismissing visitors’ Upton for 143.

Grappenhall 3rd lost at Nantwich in heart-breaking style. The hosts scored 123-7 off their 40 overs on a poor wicket. Seam bowlers Nathan Lang and Stanley Pennington bowled
superbly, although it was the spinners of Martyn Jenks, Zak Judge and Ben Bravington that picked up the bulk of the wickets. It was hard work for them bowling with a ball
caked in mud. In reply Grappers took the game to the hosts with Alex Perry powering a quick 35 and Zak Judge finishing 30 not out. However it wasn’t enough as the tail failed
to wag as Grappers were bowled out with an over to spare, losing by just one run.
Warrington’s 1st XI game was cancelled but the 2nd XI, 93-2 got the better of Davenham, 86-2 at Walton Lea.
In the UKFast Cheshire League, the local “derby” between Lymm Oughtrington Park and Appleton was cancelled.
But Appleton 2nd had a big win against Bunbury at Lyons Lane.
Sam Cooper hit a brilliant unbeaten 129 as Appleton totalled 206-5. His aggressive innings including 12 fours and four sixes and he got good support from Ian Mason, 31.
Bunbury were rolled over for a meagre 66, Alex Warham taking 4-13 and Michael Cumberland 3-21.
Appleton 3rd got the better of Europa Exiles after restricting them to 149-7, Paul White 2-16. Appleton reached their target with three wickets to spare, Christopher Priest hitting 55 and Jonathan Owen 30.
Appleton 4th came off worst at Tranmere Victoria where the home side h it 181-6, Charlotte Cross taking 4-41. Appleton could only muster 71-9.
Glazebury went down by four wickets to Prestbury at Hurst Lane.
Jack Warhurst hit 44 and Sam Stanier 27 as Glazebury totalled 119. Stanier was in form with the ball too, taking 3-13 but this was not enough to deny the visitors who reached 121-6.
Lymm Oughtrington Park 2nd got the better of a drawn game at Stockport.
Batting first, they were all out for 106, Shovan Chatterjee hitting an unbeaten 58. The home side were struggling at 66-8 at the close, Anthony Spaven taking 4-24 and Graham Waumsley 2-23.
Warrington 3rd had a good win at Macclesfield, holding the home side to 182-9, Fred Quyan taking 3-25 and then hitting 67 as Warrington reached 184-8.
Warrington 4th took a hammering against Oxton, who hit 177-7, Leo Hemmington 3-24. Warrington were then tumbled out for 50, of which opener Mark Lawton hit 20.
