BT Group has announced that its Warrington office will be moving premises at Birchwood, undertaking a major refurbishment programme to offer colleagues an impressive future-fit workplace.
The communications and technology company will occupy the whole building, consisting of two floors, creating a fantastic workspace for hundreds of colleagues as well as offering them car parking.
BT has secured the lease and plans to move colleagues into their new office from April 2021.
The announcement is part of BT’s ‘Better Workplace Programme’ – one of the largest workplace improvement and consolidation schemes of its type ever undertaken in the UK.
The five-year programme, due to complete in 2024, will improve and consolidate BT’s footprint of corporate offices, contact centres and specialist sites across the UK.
Graeme Paton, BT’s managing director of Property and Facilities Services, said: “Our new building in Warrington will offer staff an impressive and exciting state of the art environment to work in.
“With excellent transport links close-by, this office will become a key location for BT in the region, providing colleagues with the chance to work in impressive future-fit surroundings.”
Liz Needleman, BT Group regional lead for the North of England, added: “Our investment in a new office in Warrington is a real sign of BT’s commitment to Warrington as well as the region generally.
“I’m so pleased we are able to announce this investment at a time when it’s more important than ever to demonstrate our confidence in the region’s ability to make a sustainable recovery from the impact of the Covid-19 pandemic.”
Warrington Borough Council Leader, Cllr Russ Bowden, said: “This announcement from BT Group is excellent news for Warrington and is further evidence of the confidence that big companies have in our town as a great place to invest.
“Warrington’s economic performance remains robust and buoyant, despite the challenges of Covid-19. BT’s decision to establish new, state-of-the-art premises here is the latest boost for our town as we get back to business.”
BT Group plays an important role in the economy of the North West and is responsible for generating £1 in every £180 produced in the region, according to an independent report. It also generated more than £1.6 billion to the local economy in “Gross Value Added” (GVA)*, during the 2017/18 financial year. BT Group employs more than 9130 people across the region.
Teams based at BT’s new and refurbished buildings will benefit from the company’s investment in the latest technology.
