Singer-songwriter and Daintees’ frontman Martin Stephenson is heading to Pyramid this summer with a collection of timeless hits spanning his impressive career. Having produced an extraordinary 40 albums, including the critically-acclaimed Boat to Bolivia, Gladsome, Humour & Blue, Salutation Road and The Boy’s Heart, this astounding musician is guaranteed to deliver a fantastic night of live music.

NEW AND ONGOING EXHIBITIONS

Art – Saturday 5 May 2018 to Saturday 2 March 2019 (All day) – Warrington Art Treasures: The National Picture

This is the third in a series of exhibitions celebrating landmark events for the oldest public museum in the North West. Warrington Museum & Art Gallery is joining forces with National Museums Liverpool by loaning three fantastic works, thanks to the support of The Garfield Weston Loan Foundation and Art Fund. The three works coming to the museum are Enrico Coleman’s Oxen Drawing a Block of Stone to the Studio of John Warrington Wood, and Sir Luke Fildes’ A Portrait of Fanny Fildes and The Widower.

Contemporary art – Saturday 12 May 2018 to Saturday 15 September 2018 (All day) – How to Dust the Surface

Commissioned by Warrington Contemporary Arts Festival, this intriguing new work explores what new things could be created if data was decoded a little differently. Artists Juan Covelli and Neale Willis take on the role of contemporary archaeologists, searching for and sifting data from key sites around Warrington and the collections of Warrington Museum, before manipulating the way the computer processes the data to create new and surprising outcomes.

History – Saturday 30 June to Saturday 15 September 2018 (All Day) – Days of the New Town: Birchwood at 50

In 1968, Warrington was one of several towns across the country to be designated a New Town. To celebrate the 50th anniversary of Warrington New Town, Warrington Museum & Art Gallery are presenting a new exhibition that brings together photographs from the Development Corporation archive and a “people’s archive”, which reflect Birchwood as both the architects’ vision and its lived and evolving reality.

Contemporary art – Saturday 7 July to Friday 31 August (All Day) – Your history of the future

Culture Warrington has teamed up with contemporary artist Gillian Hobson and Golden Square shopping centre to create a unique piece of film celebrating the town of Warrington for the extended 2017 Contemporary Arts Festival. By asking people across the area to nominate their favourite places, Hobson recreates these hotspots to create a kaleidoscope of colours, shapes, and patterns.

Following a unanimous decision by the judges, Robert Watson was awarded winner of the 2017 Warrington Contemporary Arts Festival Photography Open. This prize exhibition will showcase a selection of his stunning images.

Night Edge is a captivating collection by local artists Hazel Hughes, Estelle Cadwallader and Eli Regan, documenting life in the city after hours. Part of Warrington Contemporary Arts Festival, Night Edge explores these nocturnal hours, from the local landmarks that are brought to life through darkness, to the people who wander the world at night.

Children’s workshop – Friday 3 August and Friday 10 August (1.45pm-4pm) – Abstract Art Workshop

Come and enjoy a free art workshop that explores more about abstract art. Gail Stubbings from BloomingArt will help you experiment with colour, line, shape, size, space, texture and value to break away from the traditional representation of physical objects.

Get to grips with photography basics with this whistle-stop workshop with artist Sophie Lee. Come along to learn about the techniques and tools essential to photography, as well as how to explore your surroundings and discover new ways of seeing things.

Children’s workshop – Friday 31 August (10am-4pm) – Kev F Comic Masterclass

Kev F Sutherland writes and draws for The Beano, Doctor Who, and Marvel comics, and now he’s heading to Warrington Museum & Art Gallery to show you just how easy it can be. After the end of a Comic Art Masterclass, everyone goes away with a comic containing a strip by everyone in the class, plus an individual caricature by Kev F.
