Albion unlucky to lose in a close-fought thriller

LATCHFORD Albion played their part in an enthralling encounter against a well organised Pilkington Recs side and were unfortunate to end up at the wrong end of a 30-28 scoreline.
The visitors opened the score on the 20 minute mark with a converted try, however Albion soon responded. Following some strong defence the hosts forced an an error where the ball was quickly spread along the line, allowing centre Morgan Nicholas to cross out wide.
Pilkington extended their lead with a further try but, on the stroke of half-time, Chris Joynson’s inside ball found captain Danny Brown, who barged his way over the line. Joynson converting to leave the scores at 10-10 at the break.
As with the first half, it was the hosts who started strongly, this time crossing for two quickfire tries to establish a 10 point lead.
George Briggs dummied his way over the visitors line, and Joynson again converted, however a mistake from the kick off, allowed Pilkington good field position, which they duly utilised to restore their advantage.
On 70 minutes, Phil Woollacott scored under the posts to give Latchford hope, Joynson’s conversion reducing the deficit, and going into the closing stages the game was finely poised at 22 – 26.
With time running out a speculative kick was fielded by the visitors and they raced away to seal a game breaking try.
Albion did not give up and, a short kick off, allowed them to reclaim the ball. Two tackles later Jake Ashall used his strength to hold off the opposition and ground the ball, Joynson converted however the referee’s whistle brought to an end, an absorbing game where either side could have claimed the victory.
This Saturday see Latchford with another home fixture when they entertain Haresfinch, kick off 2.30pm

Latchford Albion Alliance 50 Bury Broncos A 4

ALBION’S Alliance side returned to winning ways with a solid performance over a resilient Broncos outfit.
A devastating first half saw the game over as a contest with the hosts leading 30-0.
Tries came from Ben Harper, Craig Mather, Ryan Palin, Lloyd Feather, and Owen Nugent – Nugent also having a 100 per cent kicking rate.
Credit must be given the the visitors, who showed commitment throughout the game and were rewarded with a solitary score , however they could not match the skill levels of a rampant Albion side.
Further tries were added by the impressive Palin, who showed great footwork for a prop forward rounding the opposition full back, Mal Mason, as well as second tries for Mather and Feather.
Nugent converted two of these for a personal haul of 18 points.
This Saturday the Alliance side travel to face Thatto Heath Crusaders B, kick off 2.30pm.
