“Love your soil” say garden design couple

A NEW Warrington enterprise is aiming to create nature-rich gardens and teach people to “love their soil.”
The initiative, called “Patch of the Planet” has set itself on a mission to help transform the gardens and green spaces of Warrington and encourage people to love their soil while they do it.
It is the brain-child of garden designers Dina Kingsnorth-Baird and Neil Kingsnorth, passionate advocates of grow-your-own, green living and healthy communities.
They use permaculture design and ecological gardening techniques to design and create nature-friendly and edible gardens and community spaces.
As part of the enterprise, Neil and Dina have launched a new series of half-day courses, hosted by Grappenhall Heys Walled Garden offering people the chance to learn new skills in ecological gardening.
The first course, on Saturday February 17, will delve in to the rich and varied life in our soil and show how we can work with it to create healthier, happier plants.
Dina Kingsnorth-Baird said: “Who doesn’t love a beautiful green space? Whether it’s your own garden or a shared community space, every outdoor space is a patch of the planet and we believe that every patch
wants to thrive. That’s why we have set up Patch of the Planet – to help design and create thriving green spaces that work perfectly for people.
“We also want to help build people skills and passion for gardening with nature, and our new courses are perfect for anyone interested in doing just that.”
