A WARRINGTON primary school has been given a prestigious award for the work it does with leisure and lifestyles group LiveWire to keep pupils active.
Great Sankey Primary has been accredited with the AfPE (Association for Physical Education) Quality Mark..
It follows in the footsteps of nine other schools in Warrington that LiveWire has supported to achieve the accreditation.
The award is given to schools that show continuous development, outstanding practise and innovation in high quality physical education and sport.
Great Sankey Primary completed a rigorous assessment process with LiveWire’s PE and School Sports team to achieve the accreditation, which is a bench mark and industry standard for high quality.
The award will raise the profile of the subject and the school on a local and national level and will promote the high quality work that is being undertaken on a day-to-day basis.
Jan Parker, PE and school sport programme manager at LiveWire, said: “After a rigorous and challenging assessment process, it is a fantastic achievement for Great Sankey Primary School to have achieved the afPE Quality Mark.
“A high quality physical education and sports programme makes such a positive difference to the learning and experiences of children and young people both within the subject and more widely across the curriculum.
“This award will support the school to promote a positive message to the Great Sankey residents and show that we are committed to continuing to provide an excellent standard of physical education.”
Headteacher Vicky Briggs added: “This is recognition for the hard work that we have put into improving our PE program and providing an excellent quality of education through sport for our children.”
The afPE Quality Mark was developed in 2012 to give recognition for excellence in the subject when Ofsted individual subject inspections were abolished.
